Inas Al-soqi
Inas Al-soqi (b. 1987 Brasov, Romania) is a storyteller who employs vintage paper and books in her collages, reflecting a nuanced humor that resonates with global sensibilities. Born in Romania, raised in the Middle East, and immigrated to America in 2001, she has a deep-rooted connection to her heritage and extensive travels, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural diversity into her work. Her art traverses borders, gracing prestigious museums and esteemed private collections worldwide.
Inas's collages serve as a provocative exploration of dichotomies, juxtaposing the sanctioned with the unsanctioned and navigating the realms of folk and fine art. Through the lens of satire, her compositions offer an ironic commentary on notions of class and nobility, while delving into themes of Eastern and Arab cultures and the plight of women subjected to violence.
Inas’s academic journey unfolded at Tufts University, where she earned a BFA in 2010, focusing on painting and art history, and an MAAB in 2014 from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, New York.
